Latest newsThey made a teenager account for her sins but are determined to protect Mary Chirwa”Dear Editor,I feel sad for what Iris Kaingu experienced when she was just a teenager. Iris was young and being experimental and yet the public shouted for her blood until she was convicted for producing pornographic material.
Like in the current case involving a powerful woman in the society, Iris never circulated any pornographic material to public. Some of the people that celebrated the naming and shaming of Iris when she was very young are shielding a fully blown woman from being accountable for the very thing they wanted a teenager to account for and go to prison; what a shame.More shameful is that a number of people that recently wanted Iris arrested for wearing a translucent dress are shielding a fully blown woman from being questioned for circulating pornographic material she is believed to have produced. It is hypocritical to make a teenager account for her actions and protect a fully blown woman from accounting for exactly the same actions.I have never agreed to the naming and shaming of those who produce sex materials for themselves. The law on pornography should be amended to exclude sex materials produced for the amusement of sex partners.Having said this, I don’t think it will be fair to have the law changed now just because a likable and powerful person is involved.A.
