Schools are Trump's latest Covid concern
11(CNN)Schools are scheduled to open their doors as soon as one month from now.
And despite the coronavirus pandemic and uncertainty around how to do so safely, President Donald Trump is threatening to defund states who don't send children to school full time, and openly criticizing the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's own guidelines on school reopenings.
Trump accused the CDC of producing "very tough & expensive guidelines for opening schools," saying he disagreed with the health agency's recommendations. But on Thursday, CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said it will not revise its guidelines for reopening schools.

Universities are also a piece of Trump's reopening push.
Just as Harvard University announced a move to online-only classes for the next academic year, the administration issued a harsh new rule: International students would need to leave the US if their universities transition to online-only learning.
It's one of many pandemic-era orders reshaping American immigration, but it's also a draconian rule for the American university system writ large, affecting more than 1 million international students.
By Friday, Trump was doubling down on Twitter: "Schools must be open in the Fall. If not open, why would the Federal Government give Funding? It won't!!!"
Florida's one state where Trump's reopening school message is sticking. Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis weighed the increase of cases against the education gap that can come from students learning at home. If Home Depot and Walmart can be open, so can schools, he said.
Florida also just so happens to be on Trump's travel schedule -- he's visiting infection hotspot Miami-Dade County Friday for a briefing on South American drug trafficking, followed by a fundraiser.
Also on the travel schedule: A Saturday visit to Walter Reed Hospital, where Trump is expected to wear a mask in public.
